UCSB North Hall Data Center- Project Complete

DBI is pleased to have been a part of the North Hall Data Center at the University of California at Santa Barbara.  Given the importance of the data and hardware in this space, this was a great application for some unique technologies.  UCSB required very sensitive, early warning smoke detection to protect sensitive computer equipment.  We installed a VESDA by Xtralis aspirated system that uses a piping system to draw air back to a highly sensitive laser detection panel.  This system provides one input (or interlock) into their preaction suppression system (dry pipe fire sprinklers) to assure water is only released upon an actual fire event.  This detection system was connected into a new networked Notifier fire alarm system for the building.  This system detects smoke in the Computer Room Air Handlers (CRAH/CRAC), in the duct work, and in other protected spaces.  It also monitors highly sensitive Hydrogen Detectors in their UPS room and provides separate notification for hydrogen leaks.  The success of this project relied on good communication with our customer, the Univeristy, and the end-users.  Pictures will be added soon!
