Installation of fire alarm systems are mandated and required for specific building occupancies by national, state and local codes & ordinances. These are enforced by the local Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ), which is normally the Fire Department, Fire Marshall, Building Department, or other agency responsible for public safety. In California, state law requires that contractors who perform this work be licensed as a C-10 electrical contractor. Additionally all employees have to be individually licensed as a Fire & Life Safety Technician or as a Commercial Electrician, or be enrolled in an approved apprenticeship program under supervision of a licensed journeyman.
